EARTH CLINIC'S WARNING RE: BAKING SODA

*** BAKING SODA CAN DEPLETE THE BODY OF ESSENTIAL VITAMINS AND MINERALS, ESPECIALLY B VITAMINS, FOLIC ACID AND CHROMIUM!

PLEASE READ ALL THE READER-REPORTED SIDE EFFECTS BELOW AND ALSO ON THE APPLE CIDER VINEGAR & BAKING SODA CURES PAGE.

BAKING SODA FOR CANKER SORES
1/25/2008: shawna from eugene, oregon writes: "Out of the blue 4 days ago I got a canker sore that was 1.5 inches large on the side of my tongue. It was excruciating! Last night before bed I tried putting a baking soda paste on it and I woke up this morning and it's almost gone! I am so glad I found this website!!!"

BAKING SODA FOR ACID REFLUX
1/18/2008: James from Houston, TX writes: "Hi I have occasional acid refulx and my wife has it severe at times. DO NOT TAKE ACV for Acid Reflux! It just doesn't make any sense. Acid Reflux is an Acid - you neutralize Acids with Bases (Alkaline).

pH less than 7 = Acidic, pH > 7 = Basic (Alkaline). Vinegar pH = 3ish
An antacid is any substance, generally a base, which counteracts stomach acidity. In other words, antacids are stomach acid neutralizers. I truly believe that adding an ACID to your stomach to reduce Stomach Acid is the wrong approach. You should add a BASE like baking soda. Rolaids & Tums are both Calcium Carbonate. Alka-Seltzer is Soduim BiCarbonate. Baking Soda = Sodium BiCarbonate. In the duodenum, gastric acid is neutralized by sodium bicarbonate. So Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) is used internally by the body to naturally regulate stomach Acid. The equation is HCl + NaHCO3 → NaCl + H2CO3. HCL = HydroChloric (Stomach) acid
NaHC03 = Baking Soda.

Just add a little bit of baking soda to some water, swirl it around, and drink it. Within a few minutes you will belch. The belch is the gas released when the baking soda neutralizes your stomach acid (or if its crept into your throat it will neutralize it there). You will feel much better immediately. Baking Soda is completely safe.
Why would you ever want to add an acid (vinegar) to another acid (HCL) with the hopes of reducing acid? That doesn't make any sense.

Vinegar is acetic acid (CH3COOH). Some of these recipies recommend you add Baking Soda to ACV. When vinegar is added to sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), it produces a volatile mixture of carbonic acid rapidly decomposing into water and carbon dioxide bubbles, making the reaction "fizz". It is exemplified as the typical acid-base reaction in school science experiments. The salt that is formed is sodium acetate. Basically, this little experiment proves that its better to just take baking soda. The Vinegar is the acid and the Baking Soda is the base. The Baking Soda neutralizes the acid. Its the same way in your stomach, just add the Baking Soda and it will neutralize the acid. All you need is about a teaspoon of baking soda in an ounce or two of water. Problem solved immediately.

Good luck and I hope this helps."

NAUSEA AND BLADDER INFECTIONS
1/5/2008: Cory from West Hurley , NY writes: "I HAVE USED BAKING SODA FOR OVER 20 YEARS FOR NAUSEA IT WORKS EVERY TIME.IF I EAT GREASY FOODS OR JUST A STOMACH VIRUS. I WOULD BE LOST WITHOUT IT..IT ALSO WORKS GREAT FOR UTI'S IT MAKES THE SHAKING ICKY FEELING GO AWAY...."

BAKING SODA & SALT GARGLE FOR MONO WITH BAD SORE THROAT
12/23/2007: Rin from Camas, WA writes: "My daughter has a bad case of mono. Her tonsils were so swollen they were touching her uvula and she couldn't swallow any pain meds. We were having her gargle with a salt rinse, with no real relief. We called my inlaws and they suggested rinsing with a tsp of bs in lukewarm water followed by the salt rinse every two hours. Amazing! My daughter's tonsils are a little less swollen and it took the pain away for her to sleep for a lot longer last night. I found your site this morning when I was researching bs rinses. The doctor's we saw never even suggested it."

BAKING SODA CURED ACID REFLUX
12/23/2007: gina from Newport, United Kingdom writes: "Thank you for this site. I had lump in throat, uncomfortable in the back discomfort in the chest area. ACID REFLUX was taking over. Now honestly I do not have any symptons I drank southern comfort last night for the first time in years. The cure for me was, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in the morning and night, still taking omeprazole in the day. NO CHOCOLATE OR FAT WHAT SO EVER. Porridge for break fast. No more pain honest."

NAY FOR BAKING SODA
12/13/2007: Sandhi from Ottawa, Ontario writes: "Baking Soda remedy With all my experience, I can say the BS remedy is potentially harmful. I tried it and suffered bad consequences. Skin becoming dry, hair falling off in clumps and yeast infections....

Lemon Juice / ACV must be taken with just water.

Our stomach is meant to be acidic and anything which tends to neutralise stomach acid is harmful and will prevent the absorption of nutrients. NO Baking Soda should be added. I am just wondering how many ppl might be harming their healths with BS.

No offense to TED. I think he is a nice guy with intentions to help people. But not everything can be helped with supplementation. Having a healthy spine is very important."

QUESTION ABOUT BAKING SODA SIDE EFFECTS
12/04/2007: Dave Cavallini (davecavallini@gmail.com) from Georgetown ont., Canada writes: "Hi I have been takeing Aple cider vinager and baking soda for three months now and it has worked great for my acid reflux but i was wondering if long term use would be a problem. is it true it can also cause problems absorbing calcium and b12. I also wanted to ask if the acv/bs helps with my gallblader . the docs can not find stones but the bile excretion is very low and i get pains there in this area as well as pains up my right side . it makes me feel very ill and the acv/bs helps but dose not prevent it. if anyone can help please tell me what i can do. i was also wondering if being on pronton pump inhibitors for a long period of time could have caused this Thanks and sorry for the long write up."

ACV and Baking Soda Feedback

BAKING SODA AND COUGH - POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECT
11/22/2007: TP from Boston, MA writes: "I was taking baking soda for general reasons, creating an alkaline environment, staying thin. For some reason, I ended up with a cough for over a week and I think it was caused by the baking soda. I was taking the remedy 2 times a day. 1/8 baking soda and 2 Tbsp ACV with water. Maybe I took it for too many days. I felt good taking it, I even looked thinner. But after getting this cough, I started to think maybe the baking soda was such not a good idea after all. Was this effecting my lungs? It is a cleaning agent, it neutralizes acids in the body. But is it really good for the body the way it is considered to be good for cleaning your kitchen, laundry, or even an agent for clogging drains? It's a pretty powerful chemical. What if this chemical is eating away at our delicate tissues? What if it causes vitamin deficiency. I challenge you to prove to me this is actually good for anyone's health. Thank you."

BAKING SODA FOR CANKER SORES
11/14/2007: Heather from Van Nuys, CA writes: "I ran a quick search over the weekend on treatments for chronic canker sores on behalf of my boyfriend who has suffered these painful occurrences since childhood. I came across this site and he decided to try the baking soda paste. It stung at first, but it helped him heal within five days and he's so happy to have found this treatment. Thanks."

11/08/2007: Amanda from West Palm, Florida writes: "I had the worst canker sore on my gum right behind my last upper molar. It hurt to even swallow and actually woke me up at 2:00 am in the morning last night. Apparently the Zilactin-B I put on it was not working! I stumbled upon your website and decided to try the only 2 things I could get my hands on at that time of night: salt and baking soda. First I removed all of the Zilactin and rinsed my mouth with warm salt water. Then, I made a paste with baking soda and a few drops of water and placed it on the canker and let it sit for about a mintue. Then I rinsed my mouth with plain warm water. I also took 2 tylenol to help get back to sleep. I still had some pain when trying to get back to sleep, but just woke up completely pain free!! I can swallow without pain and actually enjoyed my breakfast! I can't believe it! I plan to put another "paste" on today just to make sure, but will attest that this remedy really works!"

BAKING SODA FOR GUM DISEASE
11/06/2007: Iris from London, Canada writes: "I have braces which means food gets trapped really easily but it is difficult to floss. As a result I have inflammed gums, which often bleed, despite brushing after every meal. Now I use a HUGE scoop of baking soda in a sip of water (so its like a runny paste) and swished it around in my mouth for a couple of minutes. My swollen gums went back to normal imediatly after and have stopped bleeding. It leaves a salty taste in my mouth but I avoid rinsing after the baking soda."

BAKING SODA FOR BEE STINGS
10/17/2007: Anna from Waxahachie, USA writes: "Whenever i get a bee sting, my mom allways told me to mix baking soda and water together and put it on my bee sting. I works great! I do it all the time, and the stinger comes right out"

SODIUM IN BAKING SODA
10/12/2007: omer from abu dhabi, united arab emirates writes: "for those who are trying to cut back on soduim there are 821-980 mg "soduim" in one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. and sorry for my english."

SIDE EFFECT SUSPECTED FROM BAKING SODA
9/21/2007: Sandhi (mailsandhi@yahoo.com) writes to Ted "... I want to point something about the Baking Soda remedy for increasing the alkalinity of body. Unfortunately, this remedy worked for me in the beginning, as I noticed improved digestion, but then I noticed I came down with a chronic case of Bacterial Vaginosis. A fishy odor coming from the vagina. I have heard, women who are on Birth Control Pill get BV. But I have never used BCPs. Further reading, I found out that Baking Soda, and for that matter most anta-acids can lead to the depletion of B-vitamins in the body. ( including Folic Acid & B12). And no wonder Folic Acid is recommended as a cure for BV.

I am taking Folic Acid ( 1 mg) and B-complex now, but the fishy odor is not gone completely! I am really stuck with this odor which I NEVER had before. So could it be, my folic acid levels are depleted and I am unable to get them to a healthy level. As of now, I am suspecting Baking Soda has done this to me. And I am abstaining from using it anymore. I would be interested to hear what other female users have to say about this."

BAKING SODA AND SORES
9/15/2007: HerDon from Assonet, MA writes: "I suffer with sores the doctors cannot diagnose. They are itchy, bleed and sometimes get pus filled. They hurt so much that the pain keeps me awake. I've discovered that sprinkling baking soda onto the sores drys them up. It doesn't heal them but it makes the pain bearable."

BAKING SODA AND ALUMINUM
9/13/2007: Raphael from Stow, Ohio writes: "everyone who is using a lot of baking soda, should make sure you are getting aluminum FREE baking soda. As we all know aluminum is not something we want in us. Most baking soda you get will have aluminum in it. Google "aluminum free baking soda" to find some."

EC: Actually, one of our readers already spent a good deal of time researching this topic a year ago:

8/9/2006: Methuselah from Los Angeles writes, "...

For sodium bicarbonate, I use the regular Arm & Hammer baking soda that you can find in any grocery store. I contacted them also, and they told me that they do not add anything to their baking soda although they do not have any chemical analysis of the soda ash (a mined mineral deposit) from which they make their baking soda by adding carbon dioxide in a solution--i.e., no additives or stabilizers. I hope that this information answers your question. Please let me know if you need more information. Have a great week and keep up the good work. Also thanks for all the help."

BAKING SODA TREATS ITCHY SKIN IN DOG
9/10/2007: Shirley from Midwest, USA writes: "Borax Bath, ACV remedies -- I have two dogs; both are less than 5 lbs. One has itchy skin so I started using the borax solution bath on both dogs. In about 3 hours after the bath, the one with itchy skin was scratching again. I didn’t know what to do at that point so I rubbed dry baking soda over her whole body. While I had her on her back applying the soda under her legs, she went to sleep. It was that comforting to her. Anytime she starts scratching and it seems it won’t quit and I don’t have time to do a bath, I have been using the baking soda. She seems to love it and her skin stops itching for at least 3 days.

While she was in her comfort zone of no itching, she was walking better, running and playing and wasn’t so scared all the time. So the itching was causing some social behavior problems too. I have tried both recipes of borax and peroxide and then I’ve done borax and ACV, Her skin still itches after each but she does seem a lot better then before, not quite as much scratching going on. One question though.

Do you think if I added some baking soda to the solution that would help her since the dry soda does wonders for her? They do not have mange or fleas. Also I have been putting a teaspoon of ACV in their drinking water all summer. Their water bowl holds 2 & 3/4 cups water. I do add about 1/16 teaspoon of baking soda to the vinegar. For a couple years I was putting the medicine on their backs for fleas and ticks. Ticks are the worst problem here. I decided to put the ACV in their water and I then stopped the spot on- medicine. They have gone the whole summer without getting one tick on them. We live in a heavily wooded area with lots of tall grasses where ticks love to wait for a host to walk by so they can latch onto them. Both dogs play in the woods a lot because they are always looking for something to chase Using the ACV water instead of the medicine has saved me a bunch of money and made both dogs a lot healthier."

GOUT
8/27/2007: Lorraine from Auckland, New Zealand writes: "After suffering with acute pain in my right big toe for one year i heard about this site and what baking soda can do. I took half teaspoon in a glass of water and the pain disappeared in minutes! Previously i couldnt even stand the weight of the sheet on my toe. I am yet to try acv and b.soda. but will do so and report back. have also been suffering from a lot of joint pain and that is subsiding also. I am very grateful for the info on this site. I received no help from doctors who only prescribe dangerous drugs! L.Wilson NZ."

ULCERATIVE COLITIS
9/3/2007: Daniel from New Plymouth, New Zealand writes: "I just tried taking baking soda for ulcerative colitis and it seemed to make things worse. I got a ph test kit and my ph seems to be alkaline most of the time anyway. as my ph came down after taking the baking soda my bowel got better. Not sure what's going on but it is very weird. what to do?"

8/23/2007: ela (elaine574@yahoo.com) from baltimore, md writes: "i have ulcerative colitis and typical with this disease, you are sickest in the mornings. well i was looking through the internet out of desperation and typed in natural cures for uc, and read a couple stories of people swearing that baking soda mixed with water has cured their uc. well, i tried it and it has (after 3 nights of drinking before bed) so far cut the severity of my morning sickness by about 75%! i even can't believe it. its very interesting and i'm gonna keep doing it and noting my progress."

BODY ODOR
8/22/2007: Jackie from Chicago, IL writes, "OK guys, you have to try the baking soda remedy! It's awesome!! I have been wetting and then patting some baking soda under my arms after a shower and then going to the office. No b.o. all day -- amazing! One thing I suggest -- if you do wet the baking soda down before application, just make sure it dries before you put on a shirt. I didn't wait one day, put on a tee-shirt and hit the town. Later I looked in the mirror and discovered HUGE whitish stain rings around my pits. It looked terrible! I had a good laugh and then got mortified that I'd been out all day with pit rings. Ha ha."

CHANGE IN THE TIDE
8/21/2007: Trudy from Huntington, NY writes: "I wanted to express my glee at the brand new TIDE laundry detergent product change...after all these years!!! Tonight, August 21, 2007, I saw a TIDE commercial announcing the change in their product with the addition of, Ta Da, BAKING SODA...the packaging is cream color not RED! They have also added Aloe Vera to their Rinse Product! Well, well. big business is actually admitting that the Earth Has what it needs. This could be the beginning of another shift...or change in the TIDE!"

BEAUTIFUL SKIN, REMOVES NEGATIVITY
8/10/2007: Natalia from London, UK writes: "I use baking soda from childhood and specially as exfoliation for face even if it hurts its worth it and always add to my sponge to rub my body all over as it best cleans than anything else, and if half a cup of soda added to a cool bath(submerge with a head) it removes negativity and balances electromagnetic field of the body.My skin is very good i think as a result."

BAKING SODA CURES CANKER SORES
8/9/2007: Hayley from Rochester, NY writes: "I get canker sores often and they cause me alot of pain when I eat or talk. I heard that baking soda can help. I started using baking soda and it takes the pain out for hours at a time. First I mix it with water to make a paste, and apply it to the sore, hold it on for a straigt minute. (yes, it stings and will bring tears to your eyes) then swish with water and spit it out. I can go to work for 6 hours and have no pain. Rinsing mouth out with a teaspon of baking soda in a glass of water periodically during the day helps too."

BAKING SODA CURES RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME
8/7/2007: Pat from Fredericksburg, VA, USA writes: "I have restless legs at night sometimes. Since reading about the many cures here I have tried 1/4 tsp of baking soda in a cup of water: within 20 minutes my legs are calm and I am able to sleep. I haven't found anything else that helps; won't try pharmaceutical drugs to help, don't want any side effects. The baking soda really helps me!"

BAKING SODA CURES A SORE THROAT
7/17/2007: Joy from Denver, Colorado writes, "... I have tried plenty of the remedies on this site and they have all worked. H202 on a cold sore healed within 48 hours just dipped a q tip in 3%h2o2 and held on for 5 min 4 times a day. Baking Soda and water to gargle for extremely sore throat with swollen glands gone in 1 day. I gargled for about 10 minutes with my head tilted back 3 times thru out the day. Wow is all I can say about this one. thank you all so much this site is a blessing."

MULTIPLE CURES REPORTED
{Ladies, please note the caveat}

4/27/2007: Linda from Denver, Colorado writes: "For me and my family and friends, baking soda has cured all kinds of microbial infections, probably due to the regulation of pH balance.

For at least 12 years now I've relied on drinking baking soda in water whenever I would come down with some sort of viral or bacterial infection, whether it is a cold, flu, stomach bug, or respiratory illness. I am convinced this method can kill any kind of infection.

When the West Nile virus was prevalent here in Colorado a few years ago, I became infected with it. I was skeptical that my baking soda cure would work, but gave it a try anyway since I was so utterly miserable. But, sure enough, later that evening the symptoms started to subside and I was nearly recovered by the next day.

Every time I have used the baking soda method it has worked. And everyone I have suggested it to and tried it has had it work for them, too.

The remedy is 1/2 teaspoon in a cup of water 2 to 3 times each day, sipping throughout the day. Take it for approximately 2 to 3 days. If symptoms do not resolve by the end of the third day then perhaps it will not be helped by baking soda; I have not found this to ever be the case though. It works no matter what stage a person is in their infection. For stomach bugs I will also add 10-15 drops of grapefruit seed extract.

Being female, however, I have noticed that I will get a vaginal yeast infection shortly after a course of baking soda. Because I believe it affects the pH, I treat myself with an apple cider vinegar/garlic rinse (1/4 cup of ACV and one clove of garlic, quartered, in 1 cup of water). I've wondered if the baking soda also kills the good bacteria in the body so afterward I supplement myself with probiotics (specifically Lactobacillus GG, the only known beneficial bacteria to survive stomach acid).

I know people who take Airborne to fight off colds. I looked at the label one day when my friend showed me the bottle, and sodium bicarbonate is one of the main ingredients. Perhaps this is the reason it works.

I believe that if there is ever a severe viral outbreak, such as SARS or H5N1, then this remedy would be worth a try. It seems I've always relied on home remedies to successfully treat myself and your site just adds to my collection of simple therapies!"

BAKING SODA AND CANCER
Marla from Santa Barbara, CA writes: "I just recently read about a Dr in Italy using Baking soda to cure cancer here is his site curenaturalicancro.com so this protocol is very timely Marla"

Ted responds: "after looking at the details, it appears they go to the extreme to claim the using of just baking soda alone would work. Citrates are actually more effective, e.g. baking soda and lemon (e.g. citrates in form of sodium & potassium). Metabolism needed to be raised to fight against sickness, e.g. acv + baking soda (it's the acetate and malates)

The problem is the issue is about balance where the body's sodium: potassium ratio is held in balance.

Also the most effective form of alkalizing is actually the citrates, which is actually found as a reaction from the baking soda and citric acid (sodium bicarbonate + citric acid = sodium citrate), that effectively raises the pH with any degree enough to kill of fungus or infection. This is why the lemon bicarbonate formula is recommended for cancer (prostrate, leukemia, etc. that I got a good feedback).

An ideal alkalization is whatever you are taking should be in a proper portion to the body's fluids, much like Ringer's solution or Mammalian solution. It is not just the use of baking soda, more importantly it is also citrate, malates, acetates, that the website completely misses on."

BAKING SODA CURES BODY ODOR
6/25/2007: Jane from Los Angeles, California writes: "baking soda, wonderful cure for body odor!!! i had been suffering for years with stinky pits. just dust some baking soda under your arms a couple of times a day, and like magic, the smell completly disappears!!! it helps to know that i also have an allergy to the aluminum in reg. deoderants. however, it didn't stop me from trying everything on the market to try to stop the smell! it's a wonderful cure!!! thank you earth clinic for your help!!!"

BAKING SODA CURES ACID REFLUX
5/5/2007: Marty (infree1943@hotmail.com) from Lake Alfred, Fl. writes: "I use baking soda in all my drinking water for better health in general. Use only enough too nuturalize the acid found in nearly all municipal water supplies and [unbeliveably] in bottlrd water too.I got relief from acid reflux, not nearly as much cold or sinus problem, and better joint condition.I did the PH test several times and found a pinch of baking soda about the size of the small finger nailin every glass or bottle of store bought water does the job. Most people have an acidic Body PH and the object is to keep the body PH above 7. 7.2 would be great. There are many other health benifits to this. 6 to 8 glasses per day recomended, the water taste better too. If you mix the soda with water and can taste the soda you are using too much. Be Healthy Be Happy!! Marty"

Baking Soda Heals Burns

3 Yea

Mae from Georgia writes, "I love baking and, unfortunately, burns go with the territory. I have found making a paste of baking soda mixed with a little water is effective if applied immediately. The baking soda seems to draw out the heat and reduce (or eliminate, depending on the degree) the redness. This works great for me, because when you are baking you always have baking soda right at your finger tips!"

7/19/2006: Reese from Huntersville, NC writes, "i mixed up the baking soda and the water and put it on right away and the pain stopped. i had been utting ice on it for about an hour before, but the pain just came back over and over again"

9/28/2006: Mariana from Grannis, AR writes, "I was baking a cherry pie and i burned my hand on the baking pan. About two hours later i couldn't stand the pain anymore and i looked this web site up and tried the baking soda paste. It worked!!!!! My pain was gone within 10 min. I would recomend this to anyone. It is great and it really works!"

READER Q&A

QUESTION
12/17/2007: Betty from Aurora, USA writes: "Q. I have Hypertension. Started the vinegar with molasses and soda and HBP got higher. Could that be from the soda? I cut it down to 1/4t but did not seem to help. Thanks Betty in Colorado"

Ted replies, "Dear Betty: The hypertension may have come from the black strap molasses and possibly vinegar. The baking soda should be 1/2 teaspoon in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day and avoid dinner or eat a very early dinner, e.g. 3 p.m. The major control of the body's blood pressure is actually controlled by sodium nitrite. But sodium nitrite degrades relatively quickly to make it use in lowering blood pressure if the body is acidic. That is because sodium nitrite quickly degrades to nitric oxide which defeats its purpose in toward its intended target in reduction of constricted vessels before it reaches its destination.

Therefore, I would take sufficient get urinary pH to near 7, and at least for now avoid vinegar, black strap molasses, NO FRUIT JUICES, no french fries, no fried foods, snacks, corn syrup, and no dinner if the blood pressure is too high. Once the critical phases is over, only light dinners free from any vegetable oils or using coconut oil as substitute are actually a lot safer. Time and time again, common table salt caused high blood pressure while a sea salt does the opposite, due to the reason that sea salt pH is about 8 while a common table salt pH is quite acid at 5. Again, avoid sugar and salt added together when preparing any meals, especially common table salt. Avoid all canned foods and packaged food when eating, as it is high in psuedoestrogen contaminants and just prepare foods the old fashioned way.

If fear of too much sodium (I experience don't seem to indicate sodium, it is the chlorine!) then just add potassium. Chlorinated water, fluoriated water, and even sulfites found in dried fruits can lead to high blood pressure within hours, while french fries and potato chips and even popcorn in some cases can raise blood pressure even faster. I don't know why no one bother to mention this, it has problem occurs all the time with friends and family I know.

Lecithin can help, at lest reduce the free fatty acids, such as one tablespoon of granulated lecithin eaten along with foods a day.

Ted"

QUESTION
9/14/2007: Mary from New Brunswick, Canada writes: "Asking about Soda Bicarb... a friend took it 2-3 times a day and after a few years was admitted to hospital with cancer of the stomach. Do we not need some acid in our stomaches to digest our food? Could this be a reason for her stomach cancer?"

Ted replies, "Not possible as cancer viruses don't exists in alkaline environment of a bicarbonate only when long term acid reflux, some bloody stool or difficulty of eating is often indicated months before stomach cancer. A stomach cancer cannot grow overnight or weeks.

My own experience is cancer causing chemical came from cooked cured meats), where cured meats containing heated at high temperature to form peroxynitrite, acrylamide and other dangerous substance, and those are well known to cause them. Still it takes at least over a year of eating to get it, if you try hard enough. Severe stress, such as death in the family can appear quicker, but still it takes almost a year.

I can incorrectly blame drinking water and breathing air to cause cancer too. I should have had it from taking baking soda too, since I have been taking them for more than 35 years.

Ted"

QUESTION
9/5/2007: Carolynne from Cordova, Tennessee, USA writes: "I have a question about sodium free baking soda. Does it work as well as regular baking soda to bring your body to an alkaline balance? I don't want the extra salt from regular baking soda, especially at night when I'm going to bed. I like to drink the acv and baking soda with water, but feel that there's to much sodium in the regular baking soda. The sodium free is Calcium Carbonate. Thanks"

Ted replies, "I wouldn't use the sodium free baking soda, calcium carbonate is poorly absorbed since they don't dissolve in a glass of water as readily. Also calcium carbonate is problematic, you also need magnesium to balance out the critical magnesium: calcium ratio. Since calcium carbonate is poorly absorbed, it won't alkalize the body and the pH would not budge. Actually sodium citrate are a more superior form of alkalizing as it chelates out the calcium. In certain kidney diseases, such as polycystic kidney disease, the use calcium carbonate is dangerous and can destroy the kidneys."

BAKING SODA REACTION?
7/21/2007: Chi from St. Louis, MO writes: "Thanks a lot Ted for helping people cure lots of ailments w/ ACV n baking soda. I decided to give this a try. I also assumed my body was already acidic b/c I suffer from unexplained bloating and slightly swellingon my feet. I started off last night by taking 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda in an 8oz. cup of water. I woke up this morning very tired and I've aches on my back!!! What could be causing this and what should I do? Should I start using ACV or should I wait to take it after 2weeks??? My urine was colorless so I assumed it was close to PH of 7. I'll appreciate ur advice.."

Ted replies, "In case the backaches, it means the body has an electrolyte imbalances, usually of low magnesium. In that case, try another remedy, sea salt. In that remedy, I would try 1/4 teaspoon of SEA SALT in one liter of water and use this as a drinking water for a week to help correct the some micro and macro mineral imbalances, usually often it is the lack of magnesium and too much calcium in the body. Once corrected, it appears the lemon and baking soda formula will work better as it removes excess calcium which causes the back problems. Also taking magesium citrate supplements 250 mg/day (no calcium) for 5 days out of a week is what I would take for about a month. Vitamin B complex is what I would likely to take for 2 days out of a week. The back pain should go away before the week is out."
